Why it matters
A damaged or swollen lithium-ion cell can overheat. Every guide on this site starts with the same warning: let the charge drop below about 25 percent before opening a phone.
At the bench
- Never use metal tools on or near the cell
- Work on a non-flammable surface
- Do not press or puncture a swollen battery
- Move any damaged cell to a non-flammable container straight away
Storage and disposal
Store spare batteries somewhere cool and dry, away from direct sunlight and flammable material. Old batteries should go to a licensed recycling route, not the bin.
