iPhone Won't Charge: Causes and Fixes
Most charging faults are lint, a worn cable or a software hiccup, and many iPhones are fixed in minutes. Work down this list from the easiest check to the hardest.
1Try a different cable and charger
Use a known-good cable and a different wall adapter or port. Cables fail far more often than phones do.
2Clean the port
Power the phone off, then gently scrape the port with a wooden or plastic pick. Pocket lint packs in tightly and stops the cable seating.
3Force restart
A force restart clears many software faults. On Face ID iPhones press volume up, volume down, then hold the side button until the Apple logo appears.
4Check for moisture or corrosion
If the phone has been wet, a liquid warning or green corrosion in the port means the port or board needs repair.
5Test the battery
A very worn battery can seem not to charge. If battery health is low or the phone shuts down early, replace the battery.
6If nothing works
The charging port assembly is the next part to replace. If it still fails after that, the charging chip on the board may need repair.
Common questions
Does a new charging port fix a phone that won't charge?
Often, yes. If a known-good cable and a clean port don't help, a new charging port assembly fixes most charging faults.
Why does my iPhone only charge at an angle?
Usually lint in the port or a worn connector. Clean the port first, then replace the assembly if it keeps happening.
